Genetic status and management advice

Here, we provide current (2017) genetic knowledge of some marine species in the Baltic Sea. Based on our studies, we discuss species potential to adapt to new environmental conditions and highlight threats to the genetic diversity. We also present some advice for informed management of species and Baltic Sea biodiversity.

Review on genetics in Baltic Sea species

The review article Baltic Sea genetic biodiversity: Current knowledge relating to conservation management summarizes knowledge of population genetic patterns of many species in the Baltic Sea. It is written by BONUS BAMBI researchers Lovisa Wennerström, Eeva Jansson and Linda Laikre and published in Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, in August 2017.

Management units

Species are structured into populations that are more or less genetically separated and unique. This structure is important information for management.
